In spirit of Social Media Week Toronto, I decided to share an article on how to increase your monthly Pinterest views seeing firsthand how views on my page have increased consistently for the last two weeks from 3k to 8.9k monthly views.

For most people, Pinterest is the go-to place to find inspiration on how to set up your bathroom, or finding a quick outfit inspiration for that pair of green chinos they got from Banana Republic the other day and haven’t worn for more than three weeks. That was pretty much me a couple weeks ago before I decided to fully focus on my Pinterest account and build it almost from scratch.

I have been toying with the idea of finding different avenues to drive traffic to my blog (www.soyoulikefashion.com) and my Instagram (byfredanyona) because let’s face it, Instagram and Facebook is an amazing way to drive traffic but we have to source traffic from different places.

I did a bit of research and a couple of articles and blog posts later this are 5 key tools and tips that you can use to increase your monthly Pinterest views. ‘

  1. ORGANIZE YOUR BOARDS

This is one of the most fundamental steps in increasing those monthly Pinterest views. Think of a board as a shelf, you want to have all the same items in the same shelf. You don’t want to put random stuff in the same shelf. For instance, if you are pinning* sneakers images and shots I would recommend creating a Sneaker Board. If you are pinning dapper outfit pictures you would create a board for Dapper Outfits.

*pinning-the act of saving an image (pin) in a board; hence Pinterest.

2. PROPER TITLE & DESCRIPTION

As easy as this sounds, it’s just as easy once you get the hang of it. The key thing to remember is to use the same phrase or key words in the title as in the description. An example would be if your title is “Trench Coat style for Fall” you can write a detailed description and put in the keyword which in this case would be trench coat. Once you have done that let Pinterest do the rest.

3. CONTENT IS KING AND QUEEN

Ideally this one is a no-brainer, if you have stellar content, then all you would need to do is follow steps 1 and 2 and then the rest is pretty much up to Pinterest algorithms. The beauty about content creation is that you can always use your content across different platforms, especially if it is in image format. I am not too sure about video pinning on Pinterest, all I have seen is ads, I am not too sure if you can pin a video.

I would say the secret to creating content is by creating content that you would consume too. Think of yourself as an audience, would you be interested in reading that post of saving and sharing that post? If yes, you can share, if no snap another picture and keep it moving.

4. CONSISTENCY

Being consistent can mean different things to different people. It’s a matter of perspective some would say, but in this case consistency means a couple times a day. (At least that is what has worked for me.) I visit Pinterest multiple times of the day and I pin a lot during these sessions, at least 10 times. Remember you can pin curated content which is already on Pinterest, or you can create pins by sharing your own original content.

That’s it folks, thanks for listening to my TED Talk. Seriously it is that easy, forget all the mambo-jumbo about hashtags that might work on Instagram but I haven’t used a hashtag for my new strategy and my numbers have been going up. Here is the evidence!
